Your Right to Choose
Saturday, January 22, 2022, is the 49th anniversary of the landmark decisions of the Supreme Court legalizing abortion at any point in pregnancy, Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. Since that day over 63 million lives have been sacrificed.
In my Bible reading, I read of the Hebrew midwives who refused the decree of Pharaoh to kill all male Hebrew children at birth. Things haven’t really changed much have they? After Jesus’ birth the enraged and jealous Herod decreed the slaughter of all male children under the age of two in Bethlehem and the surrounding districts thinking to protect his throne. Through the ages Satan has been at work destroying lives, many before they even have a chance at a first breath. The destruction of God’s highest creation is his primary goal.
Abortion is a volatile issue.
I have never met anyone who does not have a strongly held opinion. But opinions don’t necessarily reflect truth. Unless of course it is God’s opinion.
In the times of the Hebrew midwives who “feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded but saved the male children alive”, scripture tells us this: “Therefore God dealt well with the midwives and the people multiplied and grew mighty. And because the midwives feared God, He provided households for them”. Seems like God made His opinion clear…
The question is whom will we fear?
In the case of the Hebrew midwives they chose to fear God and not man.
A single pregnant woman faces mountains of fear. Fear of the future, fear of failure, fear of loss of relationship, fear of retaliation, fear, fear, fear. Satan is the master of fear. It is his modus operandi. With fear he motivates and influences for his evil purposes.
But scripture says that perfect love casts out fear. God is love. The love of God magnificently covers EVERY life with a future and a hope.
It is not our call to decide which life gets to live and which must die. Our call is to save the children alive. And just like those Hebrew midwives, the blessing will follow.
