To Settle Down and Make A Home
Christmas is my favorite holiday. Everything about it is wonderful to me. When God came to earth in the form of man, displaying His glory in a humble stable it reminds me of the purpose He had. He wants to live with us. He could have chosen to stay in heaven without revealing who He really is. But His heart is for us to know what He is like; and to live with Him forever.
In John 15 He said, “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in my love.” That word abide means to “settle down and make a home” with someone. He said “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and my Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” I get the feeling that God is serious about living together. This God of the universe, who created all things, is inviting me to settle down in His house and forever enjoy Him!
Devi Titus, in her profound book, The Home Experience shares that the two things human beings must have in order to thrive and grow are peace and love. She states that home is where the heart is formed and either hardened or healed, hindered or helped. Jesus is our Prince of Peace and the Bible tells us that God is love. The two things needed for you to thrive and grow are resident in the One who made you! Again today there is an invitation before us, “come and let’s live together forever.”
As we gaze into the manger and see this baby we adore, let’s remember that He didn’t come to go away. He came so that we could settle down and make our home in His love and peace.
